Thank you, Roanoke Democrats!
Welcome to your newly reorganized Roanoke City Democratic Committee for years 2020 and 2021! Thank you for your participation in the January 11th, 2020 Biennial Reorganization Caucus and the first official meeting of our new committee.
Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we as Democrats take an active role in local, state, and national civic engagement and elevate the issues that affect us ALL as Virginians, as Americans. From writing letters to attending rallies, from calling legislators to showing up for public comment sessions, from phone-banks to canvassing, from registering voters to working the precinct polls, from joining important local and state boards and commissions to running for office! We have so much good work to do and it will take ALL of us.
READY! SET! ACTION!
Please take time to read and review the following items ahead of our next monthly general membership meeting February 20th, 2020 at Gainsboro Branch Public Library at 15 Patton Ave NW at 6pm.
RCDC Dues and Donations
If you have not already done so, please follow this link to pay your biannual dues. General Member dues are $30 and Elected Official dues (Ex-Officios) are $225.
Our dues and donations, together with our fundraising efforts, power our all-volunteer organization. From purchasing basic office supplies to printing yard signs, from hosting candidate events to printing canvassing literature, from email and web services to buttons, t-shirts and banners; we operate on a shoestring budget for exponential impact.
*Individuals who cannot afford the filing fee (membership dues) may obtain a confidential waiver by emailing Treasurer@RoanokeDemocrats.com. Dues payments are suggested and no payment is required to participate in the RCDC Reorganization meeting or to become a member of the RCDC.
Meeting Minutes from Reorganization Caucus and First Meeting
Please take time to review the Reorganization Minutes and Meeting Minutes. We will be approving these minutes at our February 2020 meeting. Please feel free to print and add to your RCDC Member Handbook.
How to get involved with one of our Standing Committees
The following Standing Committees are at the heart of RCDC. We welcome each of you to consider participation in one of these (4) committees. Standing Committees are an excellent way to share your individual skills, talents and passions such as party planning, graphic design, social media, data management, etc. At RCDC there is a role for everyone.
If you have interest in serving as the Chair of one of these Committees, please fill out the Standing Committee Nomination Form.
The Programs and Outreach Committee assists in planning programs and arranging speakers for meetings and cooperates with other local Democratic Committees and organizations for joint activities.
The Ways and Means Committee manages fundraising; creates the annual budget, approves of expenditures and presents amendments to the budget.
The Communications Committee is responsible for informing members of RCDC and the public at large as to the business of the Committee. This committee manages the RCDC website, email, media and messaging as well as creates and manages RCDC graphics.
The Candidate Recruitment and Elections Committee is responsible for the process of selecting delegates from the City of Roanoke to state and national conventions of the Democratic Party. The committee shall recruit and nominate Democratic candidates for office, and to support nominees during their campaigns. Support may include, but is not limited to voter registration drives, phone banks, door to door canvasses, volunteer recruitment, Election Day operations, and assist and advise District Leaders.
