Sustainable Roanoke
Urgent: Sustainable Roanoke asks everyone to sign the petition and letter to Paul Nester, CEO or Roanoke Gas Company, "requesting Roanoke Gas Company be a responsible steward for our only local gas utility by exiting their contract with Mountain Valley Pipeline."
Roanoke Diversity Center Reopening The Roanoke Diversity Center will open in their new space at 425 Campbell Ave SW. The celebration and commemoration of Stonewall starts at 6pm. Join the celebration in your most festive mask. Hand sanitizer and social distancing precautions will be in place. No mask, no admittance, no exceptions.
NAACP Youth Council Rally for Justice : The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council will have a Rally for Justice on Friday, June 19th in honor of Junetheenth. They will assemble at the Lawson building located at 401 Gainesboro Rd. at 2:30 pm and proceed to the Dr. Martin Luther King Statue on 1st Street NW. where their program will start promptly at 3pm. This will be a peaceful event that our youth have organized. Please come be a part of this youth lead community event.
Gainsboro Revisited Tour Continue the Juneteenth weekend with a tour of historic Gainsboro with Jordan Bell. Explore the complicated and powerful history behind Roanoke’s most prominent historically Black neighborhood. Friday, June 19, 6:00 PM.Tour starts in front of Gainsboro Library. Masks and social distancing required. Rain will result in cancellation.
Labor Caucus Action: “Workers First” Call SENATOR TIM KAINE (202) 224-4024 and SENATOR MARK WARNER (202) 224-2023 Urge them to: • Fight for racial and economic justice and equality • Pass the HEROES Act • Implement America’s Five Economic Essentials: 1. Keep frontline workers safe and secure 2. Keep workers employed and protect earned pension checks. 3. Keep State and Local governments, our public schools, and the USPS solvent and working 4. Keep America healthy – protect and expand health insurance for all workers. 5. Keep America competitive – Hire people to build our infrastructure.
